Carolyn Langenkamp
Founding Partner, Retired, Inactive StatusPractice: Carolyn Langenkamp practiced labor and employment law for decades on behalf of unions and employees, conducted neutral workplace investigations, acted as an expert witness in employment and legal malpractice matters, and served as a discovery referee in federal and state court matters.
Education: Ms. Langenkamp received her B.A. from Simmons College in 1971, and went on earn a Masters in Sociology at the University of California, Riverside. Ms. Langenkamp received her juris doctor from the University of California King Hall School of Law, Davis, in 1979. Ms. Langenkamp was admitted to practice law in California, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
Lecturer/Speaker: Ms. Langenkamp was a Lecturer in the California Continuing Education of Bar's Labor and Employment Update series since 1982. She conducted multiple trainings nationwide on Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace with Colorado company Anderson-Davis. She has trained hundreds of human resources professionals in conducting sexual harassment investigations. She lectures frequently on employment discrimination litigation.
Legal Memberships: Ms. Langenkamp was a member of the National Employment Law Association (NELA), California Women Lawyers, the California Bar Association Labor and Employment Chapter, the Organization of Workplace Investigators, the Sacramento County Bar Association Labor and Employment Chapter, Women Lawyers of Sacramento, and Sacramento County Superior Court Arbitration Committee.
Notable Cases:
Dees v. Orr and Lynch v Orr: litigated companion class action sex discrimination cases against the Secretary of the Air Force, on behalf of a class of 192 female instrument repair mechanics. Class wide settlement included retroactive promotions and back pay for the class members.
Turner v. City of Davis (Davis Citizens for Human Rights): Petitioned the California Supreme Court to keep a gay rights ordinance on the ballot in the City of Davis.
Chamberlin v. Frontier Airlines: Sacramento County Superior Court action litigated to establish the rights of domestic partners of gay flight attendants.
Awards: Federal Eastern District Judicial Award for Outstanding Service to the Court in Representing Title VII Employment Discrimination Plaintiffs (October, 1989)
Community Service and Activities: Founding member of the California Capital Political Action Committee (CAPPAC) a bi-partisan political action committee to advance protections and rights of the LGBTQ community.
